Hello, My name is Mohammed. I am 30 years old and originally from Iraq. I am currently living in Rotterdam as a refugee.
I am gay, and I feel very lost and alone. I have been living in a refugee camp (AZC) for about 24 months now, and I applied for asylum in the Netherlands on May 16, 2023. Until today, I have not received an invitation for my IND interview, and I don’t understand why.
Before coming to the Netherlands, I spent 8 months in Germany, where I did not feel safe. I even saw someone from my family, which made me very anxious and scared. I left Germany and came to the Netherlands for safety and freedom. During my first interview here, I explained everything honestly, and the judge ruled in my favor. However, IND appealed the decision and tried to deport me. But eventually, I remained here — and I believe it was meant to be.
Now, I live in a refugee center, still waiting without answers, and it breaks my heart. I see people come and go, and I am still here with no progress. I am writing to you because I need support — both emotionally and legally. I am also looking for safe LGBTQ+ communities or groups in Rotterdam where I can feel less alone and meet kind people.
Thank you for listening and for any support you can provide.
Kind regards, Mohammed
