We
members of Food Circle, a network of organisations in Amsterdam fighting food waste
establish that:
- that more than 30% of the food produced for Amsterdam is wasted
- that a program in Amsterdam is lacking to fight food waste
that the largest share of avoidable food waste is produced by consumers,
retail and HORECA are also responsible for a large part of the total food waste of which a large part of this waste can be avoided
and request
In co-operation with the municipality a neighborhood-oriented approach whereby part of the inevitable food waste from the HORECA, wholesale and retail is converted into food by its redistribution to neighborhood initiatives and otherwise make consumers aware of the natural aspects of food quality (origin, cultivation aspects, freshness, shelf life) and the processing of food (seasonal recipes, preservation techniques).
