Stop plans to demolish Etty Hillesum's houses on Museumplein

The buildings on Gabriel Metsustraat 2, 4 and 6 are in danger of being demolished, thereby destroying architectural, cultural and war heritage. Etty Hillesum wrote her diaries here in 1941 and 1942. This is an appeal to the Minister OCW to designate the buildings as a national monument.

We
concerned local residents and / or citizens of Amsterdam and others who have taken this to heart
establish that:
- that the Museumplein and surrounding area is one of the richest architectural neighborhoods of the city of Amsterdam from the 19th and 20th centuries
- that the demolition, for the sake of ruthless self-gain, of the buildings on the Gabriël Metsustraat should be prevented.
- that the heritage in our neighborhood should be treated with care
- that it threatens to be lost due to government negligence
and request
the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, in light of evident shortcomings of municipal conservation policy in this case, to designate the buildings at Gabriel Metsustraat 2, 4 and 6 in Amsterdam as a national monument in order to preserve them for the future.
