1,124 signatures

SLEM total is a foundation in which SLEM education and the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum have been merged. The Municipal council considers the bankruptcy of SLEM education to be the best option to solve the financial problems of the whole institution.

Petition

We

All supporters of the preservation of the Dutch leather and shoe Museum SLEM, and its collection

establish that:

  • that the municipality of Waalwijk is about to take an irresponsible big risk by repelling the unprofitable education department by bankruptcy of this department
  • that with the bankruptcy of SLEM education there might be a considerable chance the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum goes bankrupt as well
  • that the municipality of Waalwijk prefers this even more expensive scenario instead of a rescue plan that has been presented before

and request

the municipality of Waalwijk to choose for the rescue plan according the Museum as presented before the Council meeting of 15 June, in order to preserve the collection for the museum and its citizens

Signing the petition anonymously or high profile??

We’re doing very well with the petition! At this very moment we’ve collected 800 signatures – a very nice amount considering the time the petition has been online so far- a fact that has been noticed by the local newspaper Brabants Dagblad as well. All subscribers; thank you so much for your support! Unfortunately the Brabants Dagblad also remarked that many of these subscribers have signed the petition anonymously.

It’s not quite clear what the implication of that remark exactly is. Of course we do respect your decision to sign the petition anonymously, but it may also be possible that you just didn’t notice the possibility to show your profile on the petition website. This can be easily restored through the link in the confirmation email you have received after signing the online petition. It would be highly appreciated if you’d consider to show your profile; we think we would have a stronger case towards the Municipal council if they could see who our supporters are and where they come from.

Tonight the results of the petition will be presented to the Municipal council of Waalwijk. The petition will be open until approximately 18.00 hours local time.

Save SLEM and therewith the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum!

SLEM total is a foundation in which SLEM education and the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum have been merged. The aim of this merger is to develop a new contemporary and leading museum concept for the future.

Since the beginning of 2017 a transition program has been implemented to make the new concept's objectives clear to the public.

The municipal council has made the choice to repel the (according to them) unprofitable education department by bankruptcy of this department, shortly after the opening of the first exhibitions of the transition program. A plan that can cause widespread consequences and even bankruptcy of the museum and the sale and fragmentation of the entire collection!

A rescue plan, with the aim to reject the education department without bankruptcy, was presented before the Council meeting of June 15. Of course this requires financial backing from the municipality of Waalwijk. Although this financial support is in no way equal to the costs incurred by bankruptcy. And above all, it is not in relation to the possible loss of a unique collection of objects that represents the history, culture and identity of Waalwijk. It is therefore unbelievable that the municipality of Waalwijk has decided to lead on to the bankruptcy of SLEM education.

Would you like to help us prevent the municipality of Waalwijk from playing a game of Russian roulette with this unique and irreplaceable museum collection? Please sign up for this petition to convince the municipality of Waalwijk to accept the rescue plan presented to the City Council before June 15.

Help us maintain this unique Dutch piece of heritage for later generations. Your signature is crucial!
