Give the Pianola Museum more room

The Pianola Museum is housed in an old police station in the old city of Amsterdam. But the city who owns the place has made it impossible to expand our exhibition to the upper floors of this building. After thirty years it's about time that the city allows us more space to house our wonderful collection!

establish that:

the museum has a vast and amazing collection with many unique instruments and music rolls
the museum has to cope with an extreme shortage of space to house the collection properly
therefore it is very difficult to receive enough visitors and income
in the building there is enough space to solve these problems
this unique and attractive museum & concert hall has a great value in promoting the cultural diversity of this city

and request

the city to come to an agreement with the museum to solve the deadlock (since 1994) and come to a lasting solution for this problem and secure this wonderful museum for the future.

The deadlock was caused by the fact that the apartment inside the building was assigned to a third party and not to an employee of the museum.

U kunt dit vinden via de link: https://www.at5.nl/artikelen/223756/wat-is-belangrijker-een-museum-of-een-woning Helaas herhaalt de 'woordvoerder van de gemeente' het bekende standpunt vol aperte onjuistheden. Dit ter rectificatie:

Het gaat alleen om de woonruimte op tweehoog (voor eenhoog werd al in 1993 woningonttrekking toegestaan). De bestemming van de bedrijfswoning op tweehoog werd opzettelijk toen het museum al geopend was gewijzigd in zelfstandige woonruimte, waarmee men alle verdere plannen van het museum kon dwarsbomen.

Dit is al lange tijd geleden erkend als een beoordelingsfout door de toen dienstdoende baas van het Gemeentelijk Grondbedrijf. Maar het erkennen van een fout door de overheid is al lastig, laat staan het herstellen ervan. Daar doet men het liefst niets aan. Er is dus duidelijk sprake van tegenwerking, en dat al dertig jaar lang!

De woonruimte op tweehoog kan gewoon weer als bedrijfswoning bestemd worden en blijft dus behouden, voor nu en voor later.

Een andere ruimere lokatie is de stad is met de huidige absurd hoge prijzen van onroerend goed volstrekt onhaalbaar en onbetaalbaar voor een klein museum, dat grotendeels of geheel van de eigen inkomsten moet zien te bestaan. Wij hebben bovendien nog nooit een alternatief van de gemeente aangeboden gekregen. En wat gaat dat de gemeente dan wel kosten? Vanzelfsprekend vele malen meer dan de voorgestelde oplossing.

Having visited the Pianola Museum on several occasions, I can state with certainty that it has more than earned the rights to both maintain and expand its space. There is a kind of euphoria about the place that I have found nowhere else in the world.
