Housekeepers with long-term employment receive no permanent contract after multiple temporary extensions. As a result, they lose their job near retirement age and risk welfare dependency. Housing corporations often recruit new staff while proven experience is lost (Aedes, 2025; Tuinte, 2018; Trends in HR, 2022).
Housing corporations: develop policies that recognize and retain senior housekeepers experience. Offer permanent contracts after temporary extensions or ensure suitable redeployment. This prevents knowledge loss and poverty at retirement.
