Make the Zuiderzeeweg-IJdoornlaan roundabout safe for pedestrians and children

We

residents of Markengouw Zuid in the Waterlandplein neighbourhood of Amsterdam

establish that:

• the Zuiderzeeweg-IJdoornlaan roundabout is unsafe:
  • cars accelerate immediately after leaving the roundabout,
  • there are no safe crossings, and
  • speeds often reach up to 75 km/h.
• serious incidents and numerous near accidents have already occurred.
• children, pedestrians and animals are at daily risk.

and request

the municipality to immediately improve safety by creating a footpath and zebra crossing with pedestrian priority, reducing the speed limit to 30 km/h starting from the IJdoornlaan–Zuiderzeeweg, introducing traffic-calming measures to prevent night racing, and placing mirrors at blind spots.

We trust that the municipality will take these urgent concerns seriously. However, if no adequate action is taken, we are prepared to escalate this matter further by bringing it to the attention of the media to ensure that the safety of our community is no longer ignored.
