We are Casual UvA, a collective of university employees striving to end casualisation. We are presently carrying out a marking strike.
Our demands are:
1) permanent contracts
2) professional development
3) workload transparency.
Fundamentally, we believe structural work deserves permanent contracts. Employee's work deserves to be valued, validated, and rewarded with security, opportunity, and respect.
Docent 4s (D4s) are repeatedly exploited, undersupported, and unacknowledged for their contributions. While Casual UvA recognises the promise in the new lecturer policy, issues with implementation have undermined the spirit of and promises made by the policy.
We call on all levels of university leadership to respond to and engage with our demands. We can only end casualisation together.
